Schools

We can bring along a selection of birds of prey from a range of owls, hawks, kestrels and even one of our impressive eagles into your school for the children to see up close and we will even fly some of them indoors in your school hall. As we house over 80 birds of prey, if you have any specific requirements (e.g. subjects that pupils are studying) then please contact us to discuss them.

A usual team of birds for these sessions consists of 5 different species of birds mentioned above. We adapt the content of each session according to the age group. As well as flying the birds we talk about the physical adaptations of birds of prey and owls, also the habitat, habits and diet of these birds in the wild. These sessions are performed inside (preferably a school hall), so we never have to worry about the unpredictable weather! Sessions usually last for 50 minutes but this can be varied to suit your timetable / age group.

School visits are only available on weekdays during term time and during normal school hours. These sessions are only available for schools and academies; for all other talks, shows, care homes or events, please see our Shows & Events page.

To support teaching and learning, we have a conservation and information section on-line which provides more in depth information on owls and birds of prey – click here to see this section. We are also developing a range of free fun and educational resources for children, so please click here to access these resources

TESTIMONIALS:

The Sanctuary Learning Centre (Blessed Edward Catholic School, Worcester). Sanctuary have been visiting and visited by Hagley Falconry Centre for the past six years and in the words of the children:

“It’s fantastic! Amazing! Brilliant! 10/10! Can we go again!”. We thoroughly recommend everyone to visit and experience the beauty of these birds of prey in flight, the education, the entertainment and the skill of the dedicated staff. Carry on for ever, Hagley Falconry Centre, we love it!”

– Phil Powell, Sanctuary Associate.

“Dear Andy. Thank you very much for bringing the birds into school on 16th June. The children and staff really enjoyed the experience and it tied in well with our History topic on the medieval times. When writing about it afterwards it made me laugh to find one of the children wrote “Andy brought in a cholesterol which is a bird of prey”!! Says a lot about today’s world!”

– Victoria Denning, Year 1 Co-ordinator, Hallfield School, Edgbaston.
